ST. DEMETRIOS PRESIDENT’S REPORT

June 1, 2023

We held our second annual Principal Pay-Down Dinner on Sat., May 6. It was a wonderful event with 150 people in attendance. The evening was filled with good food, fellowship, and dancing. We netted over $36,000 in tickets and donations which will be applied directly towards our mortgage principal and we thank everyone who bought tickets or made a donation. This brings us one step closer to our goal of paying off the mortgage.

Thalia and Peter Anest were honored for their contributions to our community for over five decades. Their service to St. Demetrios Church and community includes involvement in the Parish Council, Sunday School, Philoptochos, AHEPA, and Daughters of Penelope.

The Anests were instrumental in finding and leading our community in the purchase of the O’Plaine Road property. They supported building the new church and continue to help our goal to pay off our mortgage. The Anest Family recently donated $1 million towards our mortgage principal, helping us reduce the balance to under $2.9 million dollars.

We would like to thank our Principal Pay-Down Dinner team, co-chairs Irene Booras, Kathy Leoris, and Maria Sakas and the Festival Committee, co-chairs George Couvall and John Iskalis, for organizing this event. We also would like to thank our chefs, Paul Alatzakis and Stavros Frangos, for the delicious dinner and appetizers. Finally, we must thank Father Thomas for the wonderful salad that everyone enjoyed.
The Festival Committee is still very active and needs your help. St. Demetrios will have a booth at Libertyville Days selling Baklava Sundaes. The event will take place on Thurs., June 15 through Sun., June 18. Please contact the Church Office if you would like to volunteer

Greek Fest is only a few weeks away. This year’s Greek Fest will be Fri., July 7 through Sun., July 9. We need volunteers and sponsors to make this event successful. Much of the church’s budget is dependent on the proceeds from this fundraiser. Please contact the Church Office if you would like to volunteer or be a sponsor.

In your service,

Demitri Fardelos, Parish Council President

Our Vision: To be a flourishing Orthodox Christian Church, welcoming all with faith, love, and charity.
