PHILOPTOCHOS UPDATE

THANK YOU!! Our Annual Palm Sunday Luncheon was delicious and enjoyed by all! Thank you to our generous donors and volunteers: the Kallianis Family/Captain Porky’s for donating and cooking the traditional fish, Father John Sardis, John Pantelopoulos and Paul Alatzakis for cooking the meal, Bessie Kalkanis, Jenny Loucas, and Kiki Petropoulos for the delicious traditional skordalia, and last but not least, Father Thomas Alatzakis for the tasty halva dessert! Our annual Easter Bake Sale was a resounding success!

Thank you so much to all the ladies for your donation of time, talent and treasure! These monies will help to move Philoptochos forward with our mission of helping those most in need. Thank you to Donna Krissek for organizing the Culver’s Fundraiser, and thank you to all those that came out to help and those that bought meals! It was a joyful event with much community involvement. In May we also held officer elections. We would like to congratulation our new Philoptochos Executive Board: President, Dr. Mary Nunchuck, Vice-President, Pam Fardelos, Secretary, Brenda Costopoulos, Treasurer, Zacharoula Moberg, Assistant Treasurer, Tina Cantore, and Advisor to the Board, Nancy Paganis.

UPCOMING EVENTS: The next Operation Classroom collection is Sat., June 24. Please drop off the donated items between noon-2:00 pm at the circle drive. Our need for June is food. Remember to bring food that does not require preparation. For our Chapter Challenge, in June and July, we are having a Kitchen Appliances Drive. The veterans are in need of new or gently used kitchen items such as plates, cutlery, pots, skillets, coffee makers, and small electrical appliances.

We will be collecting these items every Sunday for the next two months. Please bring your items to the church on Sunday morning and leave them on the assigned table in the hall. Libertyville Days is coming up, and our church is sponsoring a baklava sundae booth. Please come and support our church, and come and learn more about Midwest Veterans Closet, our chapter challenge. As we prepare for our annual July Greek Fest, all bakers and non-bakers are asked to join us and volunteer to help bake sweets on the dates of June 17, June 19, June 23, and July 1.

Outgoing President Statement: It was my pleasure to serve our Parish and community as the Philoptochos President for the past four years. We have done many great things together for the community and we have established relationships that will continue in doing our great work for those most in need. During the pandemic our Priests allowed us to keep our mission going, through our Operation Classroom initiative, serving the homeless students of our community.

A big thank you to Dr. Mary Nunchuck and Koula Kanne for their extraordinary efforts and leadership that allowed us to continue to help those in need during the darkest times, when people weren’t going to the grocery stores. Also, great thanks to Father John Sardis for sharing his culinary skills which allowed us to serve over 5,000 meals to the homeless students and their families of Operation Classroom. It has been a blessing and an honor to serve you. This could not have been possible without the support of our Parish Priests and our Parish Council, and all of our Philoptochos Sisters.

Yours in Christ,

Nancy Paganis
