Festival of Orthodoxy
March 7th 2026

Join us for an all-day event during the 2026 Great Lent that invites you to experience the beauty, depth, and living tradition of the Orthodox Church. Whether you are a long-time member of the faith or simply curious to learn more, you are warmly welcome. Bring a neighbor, a friend, or a co-worker and enjoy a day of worship, fellowship, learning, and good Lenten food.

What to Expect – the Main Activities of the Day

1. Church Service – The Divine Liturgy (Morning)

The day begins in prayer with Divine Liturgy, the central act of Orthodox worship. Visitors are welcome to observe and experience the rhythm and reverence of Orthodox worship.

2. The Meaning of Icons – Iconography presentation

Throughout the day, discover why icons are a central part of Orthodox life and prayer. This presentation explores the theology, symbolism, and spiritual meaning behind icons, helping participants understand how sacred images serve as “windows to heaven.”

3. Presentation on the History of Christianity

Take a guided journey through the history of Christianity, from the early Church to the present day. This accessible presentation highlights how the Orthodox Church has preserved the Christian faith through the centuries, offering valuable context for both newcomers and lifelong learners.

4. Byzantine Hymnology – The Music in our Church

This introduction to Byzantine chant explores its origins, structure, and unique role in Orthodox worship. Our chanter will explain how this ancient musical tradition, beyond its great beauty, is meant not to perform, but to lead the faithful into deeper prayer and worship.

5. Great Vespers Church Service

Join us for a moving service that prepares us for the next day’s Divine Liturgy.

6. Lenten Lunch and Dinner

Free-will offering Lenten meals will be available during the prescribed hours (Lunch: 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM, Dinner: 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM) in the Church Hall. These shared meals provide time for rest, conversation, and fellowship, allowing visitors and parishioners alike to experience the communal life of the Church.

Other Activities During the Day

a) Ministry Fair

Explore the many ministries that shape our parish life. The Ministry Fair offers an opportunity to meet our volunteers and learn how the Church serves its members and the wider community.

b) Guided Church Tour

Fr. Thomas Alatzakis will lead Church tours, explaining what you can see inside an Orthodox Church and, most importantly, why. These tours are especially helpful for first-time visitors.

c) Panel Discussion

Perspectives on Orthodoxy in the modern world will be shared during a panel discussion, creating space for reflection and deeper understanding of our faith.

d) Ask the Priest

Following the panel discussion, you are invited to an informal opportunity to ask questions about Orthodox Christianity, spiritual life, and Church practices. This open session encourages honest conversation in a respectful, judgment-free setting.

e) Children’s Activities

Fun and age-appropriate activities will be available for children throughout the day, offering them a chance to learn, create, and enjoy the festival while parents participate in various events.

Stay tuned! A detailed agenda and timeline of activities taking place during the Festival of Orthodoxy will be provided closer to the event.
